Women’s Studies Major Chosen as Student Speaker

Dr. Bonnie Moradi and BA Graduate Zoe Terner

Zoe Terner, a double major in Women’s Studies and English with minors in Sociology and Disabilities in Society, was chosen as the student speaker at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recognition ceremony, held on April 30th , at the Stephen C. OConnell Center. Zoe, active in both UF Student Government and the Women’s Student Association, graduated Summa Cum Laude.

She is a member of the service sorority Delta Nu Zeta, honors organization Phi Beta Kappa, and was a member of the LitiGators Mock Trial Team. She served as the Social Action Vice President of the NFTY: The Reform Jewish Youth Movement, as the Gun Violence Prevention Campaign Chair for the Union for Reform Judaism. She has served as Legislative Intern with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C. and with U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth. Zoe is a founding member of Not My Generation, an organization focused on addressing the systemic causes of gun violence. This summer, she will intern in the United States House of Representatives with Representative Ted Deutch’s office. In the Fall, she will begin pursuing her J.D. at the Duke University School of Law.

In her speech at the graduation recognition ceremony, she said, “You are living a complicated life, with room for uncertainty and questions and doubt. That’s what CLAS (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences) taught us. There are so many questions worth asking.”

Women’s Studies majors gathered for a photo before the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences graduation recognition ceremony at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Saturday, April 30th. At this ceremony, Dean David Richardson and Chairs and Directors recognized students graduating with Bachelors degrees in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Congratulations to all of our 2021-2022 graduates including forty-one Women’s Studies majors, Twenty-seven Women’s Studies minors and 118 minors in Health Disparities in Society.
