Rewriting History: A conversation with artist Fabiola Jean-Louis and Porchia Moore
Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 6pm
Chandler Auditorium at the Harn Museum
Marie Antoinette Is Dead by Fabiola Jean-Louis, from the series, Rewriting History recently became a part of the Harn’s collection. Jean-Louis – a Haitian-born, New York-raised artist and visual activist – will discuss her work on view in AWE-some. Her exquisite photographs evoke the privilege and luxury of 18th and 19th century aristocratic portraiture which she subjects to historical and feminist critique by centering Black subjects. Jean-Louis will be in conversation with Dr. Porchia Moore, Rotating Program Head Museum Studies, UF Assistant Professor Museum Studies and affiliate faculty in CAME.
Presented as part of the Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies Research Edna Saffy Lecture Series and sponsored by the Center for Arts, Migration, and Entrepreneurship in COTA; Center for European Studies; Center for Latin American Studies; Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations; and UF International Center.
