Embodiment Workshop

April 15 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

This semester, UF’s International Ethnography lab has organized an all-day workshop on the relationship between embodiment and research.  Dr. Laura Orrico from Temple University and Ecem Ece from UF will co-lead the workshop.

Please click on this link for more information and to register.

The workshop will be held on April 15 from 10:00am-4:00pm. The workshop consists of two components. 10:00am-12:30pm will be organized as a MasterClass, with a heavier focus on theories and workshop leaders’ own research and writing on this topic. Workshop leaders will also request questions from participants a few days in advance to discuss during this period. Lunch, from 12:30-1:30pm, will be provided. 1:30-4:00pm will be hands-on, with   participants working to think about embodiment and their individual research.  For this portion of the workshop participants will need to bring their own data or other writing to work on. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2024.

You can use the QR code on the attached flier to apply. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or Unna Yared. Please share this email and flier with friends and colleagues.

Description: How do researchers’ bodies shape the projects they design, the data they collect and analyze, and the claims they make? Why is it important to be aware of the relationship between the body and the research we produce? And how can attention to embodiment strengthen our research and writing? These are some of the questions that we will address in this all-day workshop. During the workshop participants will learn about different approaches to thinking about the relationship between (dis)embodiment and research and how to better incorporate the former into the latter. Some of the topics covered in the workshop include: feminist and queer methodologies, virtual ethnography, and the ethnography of everyday experience.

Registrants will receive the physical location of the workshop upon completed registration.
