Writing Program

  • ENC 5319 Scholarly Writing for Publication—Writing for Intersectional and Social Justice Research
This workshop-style seminar invites students to develop their academic writing practices, gain a meta-critical awareness of major genres/techniques of academic writing, and increase their confidence and fluency as writers. It draws on critical composition as well as feminist, queer, intersectional, and critical race theories to explore the concept of public voice, grapple with writing from the simultaneous positions of oppressor and oppressed, and interrogate the notion of academic “author”-ity. In addition to workshop assignments, students work on one larger project of their own choosing over the course of the semester. Note: Because the class is not discipline-specific, it does not address research design.
