Imagining Climate Change will be hosting a visit by Canadian ecologist and poet Madhur Anand on Feb 18–19, 2020. Ustler Hall will host Anand’s poetry reading the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Anand is an internationally recognized ecologist who collaborates with mathematicians, theoretical physicists, and statisticians, working in theoretical and empirical studies of natural and human-induced changes in and their implications for sustainability. Her research has been supported by numerous governmental, industry, national and international agencies and awards. In 2011, she was named Young Scientist of the World Economic Forum. Formerly a Professor at Laurentian University (2000-2006), she is since 2006 a Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph. She’s published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has co-authored a major textbook on Climate Change Biology.

She is also an award-winning, widely-published and anthologized poet, and author of one published (A New Index for Predicting Catastrophes, 2015) and one forthcoming volume of poetry (2019). Her poetry focuses on ecological themes and the relation of scientific practice to the creative imagination. Her work – much of it rooted in her scientific work and abiding interest in complexity theory – is lyrical, unsettling, deeply thoughtful.
